Stewart & Stevenson FDDA LLC, DBA Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Stewart & Stevenson LLC. We are the authorized distributor for Detroit Diesel, Mercedes-Benz Engines, MTU Onsite Energy, MTU, Volvo Penta marine engines and Allison Transmission products and services. Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison, Inc. has been in varying stages of development for the past twenty-nine years. The origins of our company stem from the consolidation of two organizations in 1997. George Engine Company purchased the facilities operated by General Motors in Miami, FL. Mr. Dwayne House bought the company in 1971 and renamed it Key Power. The facilities were in operation from 1971 to 1989 and included what are currently our Miami and Fort Myers Branches. In 1989, Key Power was acquired by Detroit Diesel Corporation and changed its name to Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison, Inc. The first expansion was to open what is now known as the Fort Pierce branch. At around the same time that George Engine company purchased the General Motors facilities in Miami, Western Diesel Services, Inc. of St. Louis, Missouri purchased the operations of General Motors in Jacksonville, FL. This new company came to be known as Coastal Power Products, with branches in Jacksonville, Tampa, Sanford, and Ocala. Coastal Power Products remained in operation from 1971 to 1992. In 1992, Detroit Diesel Corporation purchased Coastal Power Products and it became Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison North. In 1995-1996 the Fort Lauderdale and Orlando facilities were opened. The "State of the Art" operation in Fort Lauderdale offers complete sales, service, parts, and training for both Detroit Diesel and MTU products. The Orlando facility comes equipped with 20 service bays. In 1997, these two Detroit Diesel Distributorships merged to form a single company with a franchised territory of nine branches covering the State of Florida. In 2000, DaimlerChrysler purchased Detroit Diesel Corporation creating the world's largest medium and heavy duty engine manufacturer in the world. On December 16, 2013, Stewart & Stevenson LLC acquired Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison from Detroit Diesel Corporation. Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison currently has 260 employees statewide, which includes 124 skilled technicians. With its modern fleet of 90 Service vehicles and a $10,000,000 parts inventory, Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison can satisfy all of our customers' needs. |
